Information for users of Windows Vista© and Windows7©
If you are using these Windows versions there are a few things to consider: UAC and Sharing and Security...
User Access Control (UAC)
Installations under Windows Vista© and Windows 7© may be a problem should the UAC mechanism be enabled (default).
This situation can apply to many applications and not just AutoPro products. AutoPro products need to be protected
unauthorised use and we use a 3rd party product to do so. Vista© and Windows 7 can see the functions of this
product as being an attack on the system and therefore will not allow it to run.
The functions are of course safe and have no effect on your system, however UAC may need to be disabled so that the
application can create the Unified Data Link (for the database) and to secure itself on your system (at least temporarily).
Once these functions have run correctly UAC can be re-enabled if required.
To disable UAC (temporarily or permanently), please use the methods shown below...

Disabling UAC in Vista (Windows 7 users click here)

  1. Open Control Panel.

  2. Under User Account and Family settings click on the "Add or remove user account".

  1. Click on one of the user accounts, for example you can use the Guest account.

  2. Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.

  1. Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.

  1. In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.

  1. You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready.

In order to re-enable UAC just select the above checkbox and reboot.
NB:
We suggest the Control Panel method above, its the easiest to implement, but for more information...

Sharing, Security and the Database
Vista 32 and 64 versions.
As we are a database product, it is necessary to enable full read and write access to the PC or server that will
be hosting the program. Generally speaking, and in particular for network installations, you should Add full
permissions for the Everyone item on the Sharing tab and the Security tab for this to work (Advanced) and
then, after everything works, you can then tighten this back down to a user level.
The Microsoft Jet Database Engine and Data Access controls
Vista 32: As on other Windows versions, on Vista 32 the controls are normally installed correctly.
Vista 64: The controls may not be installed on Vista 64 and may need to be installed separately before AutoPro
can open its database (i.e AutoPro may fail opening). Please contact Microsoft Support for more information.
